What is included in the adventures?

All adventures include two bilingual certified guides, safety equipment, adventure gear, beverages, snacks, a high-quality photography kit from your adventure, and all required national park fees. What safety measures are in place?

All our guides are certified and trained as first emergency responders. For marine adventures, we use life jackets and strictly follow safety protocols established by CONANP and SEMARNAT. Our vessel and exploration van are equipped with a satellite phone and a comprehensive safety kit. We carefully monitor climate conditions and operate only during optimal ocean forecast windows to ensure your safety throughout the adventure.

As a general rule, pets are not allowed. However, you can contact us if you need to request an exception.

What is your approach to sustainability?

We work with local guides and use authorized vessels, promoting low-impact tourism by operating only one expedition per day. We do not use single-use plastics and strictly follow national wildlife regulations. Additionally, we collaborate closely with researchers, universities, institutions, and nonprofit organizations to support conservation and scientific research. Our commitment ensures that every adventure respects and protects the natural environment of Baja California Sur.

Are your tours family-friendly?

Yes. Our tours are suitable for the whole family, and we tailor the experience to the abilities of the group.

Do your boats have bathrooms?

Yes, our vessel in Loreto is equipped with a toilet. For other locations, some vessels have bathrooms available. This information can be confirmed at the time of booking.

We recommend bringing a hat, biodegradable sunscreen, sunglasses, a camera, and comfortable or waterproof clothing. We also always send a detailed recommended checklist after booking your adventure.

Can I swim with whales?

No. For ethical and safety reasons, whale watching is done from the boat while maintaining a responsible distance. Additionally, all great whales are protected under Mexican Federal Law NOM-131-SEMARNAT-2010, which makes it illegal to swim with them.

When is the best time to see whales?

The Gulf of California is home to whales year-round, with resident species like fin whales regularly observed in the region throughout all seasons. However, the best time to see migratory 'winter whales'—such as blue whales, gray whales, and humpback whales—is from January to April, when these species visit the area for feeding and breeding.

Our small-group adventures and multi-day itineraries are also designed around a sense of community, making them a great option for solo travelers. During the day, you’ll explore with the same group and our team, and we’ll pick you up for each adventure in our expedition van.

Loreto is home to extraordinary marine and terrestrial biodiversity, and the wildlife we encounter changes throughout the year.
At sea, depending on the season, we may encounter blue, fin, humpback and Bryde’s whales, sperm whales, orcas, pilot whales, several species of dolphins, California sea lions, sea turtles, mobula rays, giant oceanic manta rays, sharks, large schools of fish, and a remarkable diversity of seabirds. Loreto Bay National Park is particularly important for marine mammals and is one of Mexico’s most diverse areas for cetaceans.
Underwater, the diversity continues with colorful reef fish, rays, moray eels, octopus, sea stars, sea urchins and many other invertebrates.

Whale watching in Loreto is possible throughout much of the year, with different whale and cetacean species present across the seasons. The main whale-watching season runs from January through April, when winter migratory species including blue whales and humpback whales visit the Gulf of California. Blue whale season is particularly associated with winter and early spring, making Loreto one of Baja California Sur’s most remarkable destinations for whale watching.
Gray whales are found along the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur during winter and can be experienced as part of selected Baja Adventures multi-day whale itineraries or daily adventures departing Loreto.

Yes. Snorkeling gear is included in our marine adventures, including masks, snorkels, fins, and towels.
Wetsuits are not included. If conditions or water temperatures make a wetsuit advisable, our team will let you know before your expedition. Wetsuits are available to rent from independent providers in Loreto, although Baja Adventures does not manage or arrange these rentals.
Guests are responsible for bringing their own wetsuit or rash guard when needed. If you’re unsure what to bring, ask our team before your adventure and we’ll provide information about the expected water temperatures and recommended gear for the season.
Safety is a fundamental part of every Baja Adventures expedition. Our boat carries professional safety and emergency equipment, including offshore life jackets, VHF marine radio, fire extinguishers, a satellite phone, first-aid and emergency equipment, and a dedicated safety kit.

The best season for land adventures and hiking in the Sierra de la Giganta is generally from October through May, when temperatures in Loreto and the mountains are more comfortable for exploring on foot. Winter and spring are particularly well suited to canyon hiking, overlanding, nature trails, and longer days in the mountains.
Because the Sierra de la Giganta is a desert environment, conditions can vary considerably with elevation, route, and weather. During the hottest summer months, we do not operate our regular canyon-hiking adventures due to extreme heat.

Canyon adventures are not suitable for everyone. Some routes involve uneven and rocky terrain, scrambling, steep sections, heat exposure, and sustained physical activity. Guests with certain injuries, mobility limitations, medical conditions, or insufficient fitness or hiking experience may not be able to participate safely in some routes.
Before your adventure, you will complete a pre-expedition questionnaire covering your hiking experience, physical condition, relevant injuries or medical considerations, and skill level. Our guides use this information to determine which route and difficulty level, if any, is appropriate for you.
For safety reasons, our guides may recommend a different route or adventure if they determine that a particular canyon experience is not appropriate for a participant. Safety always takes priority over completing a specific route.

Animal welfare is an essential part of how we design and operate our mule adventures. We work exclusively with trusted local ranching families and with healthy, well-cared-for mules that are accustomed to the terrain and conditions of the Sierra de la Giganta.
Mules have been part of life in these mountains for generations and remain an important part of the culture, history, and traditional way of life of the Sierra. By working directly with local ranchers, these experiences also contribute to the rural economy and help support the continued care of the animals.
The health and comfort of the mules always come first. We do not operate rides during extreme temperatures or when conditions are considered unsuitable. During warmer months, departures are scheduled around sunrise or sunset to take advantage of cooler conditions for both the animals and our guests.
Routes, schedules, and activities are planned with the animals’ abilities and well-being in mind. If conditions are not appropriate, we may modify, reschedule, or cancel an experience.
Our goal is to offer an authentic way to experience the Sierra de la Giganta while maintaining a respectful and responsible relationship with the animals, the local ranching community, and the landscape we travel through.

For multi-day adventures and itineraries, a 50% deposit is required to secure your booking, with the remaining balance due according to the payment schedule provided by our reservations team.

Our shared adventures are small-group experiences with a maximum of 7 guests, where you join other travelers on a scheduled expedition. They offer the same expert guides, equipment, safety standards, and Baja Adventures approach while sharing the experience and cost with a small group.
A private adventure reserves the expedition exclusively for you and your group. Private experiences offer greater flexibility in pace, interests, activities, and how we structure the day, always depending on weather, wildlife, safety, and park regulations. Depending on the adventure, private groups can accommodate up to 8–9 guests.
Private adventures are particularly recommended for families with children under 12, photographers, travelers with specific interests, or groups looking for a more personalized experience.
Whichever option you choose, we remain a small-scale operation running one expedition at a time, so both shared and private adventures receive the same level of attention from our team.

We take care of the equipment needed for the adventure; you are generally responsible only for your personal clothing, footwear, sun protection, and personal items. A detailed packing list will be provided before your expedition so you know exactly what to bring.

We can generally accommodate most common diets and dietary restrictions. However, please keep in mind that we are an expedition company rather than a restaurant, and many of our adventures take place in remote locations, so options may sometimes be limited by logistics and local availability.

No. Airport transfers are not included in the price of our adventures.
However, our team can help arrange private airport transportation upon request. Transfers are booked separately and are an additional cost to your adventure or itinerary.
If you need transportation, simply let our team know when making your reservation and we’ll be happy to help coordinate it.
While our new Baja Adventures office is currently under construction, meeting arrangements depend on the type of adventure you have booked.
For marine adventures, we meet at La Dársena de Loreto (Loreto Marina/pier).
For land adventures, our team will coordinate a pick-up from your accommodation only when located within central Loreto.
For multi-day itineraries, transportation between the activities included in your itinerary is provided during the expedition days. If you have selected an itinerary without our accommodation option, pick-up and drop-off are available from accommodations within central Loreto only.
Approximately 24 hours before your adventure or the start of your itinerary, our team will confirm your departure time, meeting point, and final details directly with you via WhatsApp and/or email.
Collective Adventures: Departure times are scheduled by Baja Adventures according to the season, sunrise, weather conditions, wildlife activity, and expedition logistics. As these adventures operate with a shared group, departure times cannot be adjusted to individual participants’ schedules or preferences. Final timing is normally confirmed 24–48 hours before departure.
Private Adventures: Private adventures offer greater flexibility. If you require a specific schedule, please let our team know before booking. When weather conditions, logistics, and the nature of the adventure allow, we can adapt the departure time to your needs. However, some expeditions require specific timing to provide the best and safest experience, so requested departure times cannot always be guaranteed.
Shared airport shuttles operate regularly from Loreto International Airport to downtown Loreto, usually every 20–30 minutes. This is generally the most affordable option, and you can simply provide the driver with the address of your accommodation.
The accommodation included in our itineraries is conveniently located in downtown Loreto, and you will receive the exact address and arrival information during your booking process.
If you prefer a private airport transfer, our team can also coordinate one for you at an additional cost. Simply share your flight details with us in advance, and we’ll arrange a private driver for your arrival.

Baja Adventures is not a conventional tour company. We are a small, owner-led boutique expedition company based year-round in Loreto, pioneers on regenerative tourism in Loreto, creating highly curated land and sea adventures for travelers who want to experience Baja California Sur with greater depth, purpose, and connection.
Our expeditions are led by two expert bilingual/trilingual guides, supported by a local team that lives, works, and explores here throughout the year. We speak English, Spanish, and Catalan, and our knowledge of Loreto comes from years spent observing its wildlife, navigating its waters, exploring the Sierra de la Giganta, and understanding how seasons, weather, ocean conditions, and animal movements shape this extraordinary place.
We intentionally remain small and personal. We operate one expedition at a time, own our marine and land expedition fleet, and carefully curate everything from routes and equipment to meals, educational materials, comfort, safety, and the small details that can transform a day in the field.
Conservation is at the heart of what we do. Our expeditions incorporate citizen science, wildlife monitoring, environmental education, and responsible observation practices. Throughout the year, our team documents wildlife movements and changing environmental conditions, allowing what we learn in the field to continually inform how and where we explore.
We work with local ranchers, communities, scientists, conservation initiatives, and other people connected to this landscape, with the goal of keeping more of the value generated by tourism within the destination. Our approach is rooted in regenerative tourism: not simply visiting a place responsibly, but finding ways for tourism to contribute positively to its conservation, knowledge, culture, and local economy.
We operate with the appropriate permits and follow ethical wildlife-viewing and protected-area practices, always adapting our expeditions to the animals, the environment, and the conditions — never the other way around.
Ultimately, Baja Adventures is intentionally niche: small groups, expert-led exploration, high standards of comfort and detail, conservation, citizen science, and genuine local knowledge — from the mountains to the sea.
Regenerative tourism goes beyond simply reducing the impact of travel. It aims to create a positive contribution to the places we visit , supporting nature, local communities, culture, conservation, and knowledge.
At Baja Adventures, we put this into practice through small-group expeditions, citizen science, wildlife monitoring, conservation initiatives, environmental education, responsible wildlife observation, and collaboration with local communities, ranchers, scientists, and conservation organizations.
We believe tourism should not only take people somewhere extraordinary; it should also give something back to the place that makes the experience possible.
Citizen science is integrated naturally into many of our expeditions. You don’t need to be a scientist or have any previous experience to participate, our guides will explain what we are observing, why it matters, and how information is collected.
Depending on the expedition and season, we may record wildlife sightings, species, numbers of individuals, location, behavior, environmental conditions, photographs, and other field observations. Guests may help spot wildlife, document observations, use field materials, or learn techniques such as photo-identification and wildlife monitoring alongside our guides.
The information we collect forms part of our year-round monitoring of Loreto’s wildlife and ecosystems and, when relevant, can contribute to collaborations with researchers and conservation initiatives.
Participation is always designed around the animals. We never create or force an interaction for the purpose of collecting data. We observe what naturally happens, document it responsibly, and use the opportunity to better understand the environment we are exploring.
For us, citizen science transforms an expedition from simply seeing wildlife into learning from it and contributing to our understanding of Loreto.
