The hiking adventure through the canyons of the Sierra de la Giganta begins with an exciting journey in a 4x4 van from Loreto, where you will meet two expert guides in ecology and geology.

1. Transfer from Loreto: 45 minutes in a 4x4 van to the start of the trail.

2. Arrival at the Canyon: Upon arrival, the guides will conduct a safety briefing and introduce you to the area's geology, surrounded by impressive rock formations.

3. Hiking in the Canyon: A 2.5-hour hike through the canyon, observing the local flora and fauna, with information about the species adapted to the arid environment.

4. Return to Loreto: After the hike, you'll return to the 4x4 van for the transfer back to Loreto and reflect on the experience.

La Cachalote – 4x4 Expedition Van & Round-Trip Transportation

Meet La Cachalote, our purpose-built 4x4 expedition van, designed to safely and comfortably explore the rugged landscapes and remote destinations of the Baja California Peninsula. Equipped for extended overland adventures, La Cachalote combines off-road capability, passenger comfort, and practical features for exploring areas beyond conventional paved roads.

*Passenger Capacity: Comfortable, cushioned seating for up to 7 guests and 2 guides.

*4x4 Capability: Equipped with a specialized four-wheel-drive conversion, allowing access to remote destinations, rugged terrain, and unpaved roads that conventional passenger vans cannot navigate.

*Authorized Tourist Transportation: Operates with the appropriate tourist transportation permits and passenger insurance coverage.

*Air Conditioning: Powerful climate-control system designed to keep the cabin comfortable, even during Baja California's hot desert conditions.

*Roof Rack: Additional storage capacity for luggage, expedition equipment, and oversized gear that cannot be accommodated inside the passenger cabin.

*Expedition-Ready Design: Configured for long-distance overland travel, providing the space, versatility, and functionality required for remote adventures.

Round-Trip Transportation:

Transportation is included from designated pickup locations in downtown Loreto and Loreto Bay. Transfers from Villas del Palmar and Puerto Escondido are not included.

Hiking Equipment:

Helmet, backpack, and towels are provided.

Safety & Emergency Equipment:

Our expeditions are led by Wilderness First Responder–certified guides and equipped with marine safety and emergency equipment, including:

* Comprehensive first-aid kit.


* Satellite communication equipment.

Natural History Guides & Educational Materials:

Printed natural history guides, scientific illustrations, infographics, and research papers support the educational experience. During wildlife encounters, our naturalist guides provide scientific interpretation of species behavior, population dynamics, distribution, migration patterns, and ecological roles, using visual references to enrich your understanding of the marine environment.

Small Groups:

Our shared expeditions are limited to a maximum of seven participants, ensuring a more personalized, attentive, and carefully curated experience for every guest.

Meals & Beverages:

Freshly prepared meals featuring locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Our menu varies daily depending on ingredient availability, departure times, weather conditions, and expedition logistics.

* Light Breakfast: Fresh fruit, homemade cookies, dried fruit, and nuts.


* Lunch & Snacks: Depending on the day's itinerary, options may include burritos, focaccia sandwiches, baguettes, pasta, and other freshly prepared dishes.


* Beverages: Coffee, hot tea, coconut water, and drinking water.


Our Commitment to Reducing Single-Use Plastics: We strive to minimize single-use plastics during our expeditions. Guests are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles or mugs, which we will gladly refill throughout the adventure.

Once your reservation is confirmed and your deposit has been received, our reservations team will provide a Pre-Expedition Form where you can specify dietary preferences, restrictions, and allergies, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free requirements.
